Job Summary

We are looking for a reliable and practical

Maintenance Operative

to support the upkeep of our retail stores, Speed Queen laundromats, and associated sites. This is a

hands-on role

focused on general building maintenance, repairs, and preventative upkeep.

This position does

not

involve IT work, advanced electrical tasks, or specialist engineering. It is ideal for someone with strong basic building skills who enjoys fixing problems, keeping sites looking good, and responding quickly to maintenance issues.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out general maintenance and repairs across stores and laundromats Basic building work including: Minor repairs to walls, doors, floors, fixtures, and fittings Painting, patching, sealing, and cosmetic touch-ups Replacing handles, locks, hinges, shelving, and signage Identify and fix minor issues before they become bigger problems Perform routine checks to ensure sites remain safe, clean, and operational Liaise with external contractors when specialist work is required Support store teams with ad-hoc maintenance needs Maintain tools, materials, and a tidy working environment
Required Skills & Experience

Proven experience in a general maintenance, handyman, or building-related role Good practical knowledge of basic building and repair work Confident using hand tools and basic power tools Ability to work independently and manage multiple small jobs Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship Good communication skills for working with store teams
Desirable (But Not Essential)

Experience working across multiple sites Previous retail, hospitality, or commercial property maintenance experience Full UK driving licence
