Job Description

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Maintenance Plant Technician to join the team based at our Basildon site in Essex. You will be working a unique 6-2/2-10 shift pattern which includes routine cover for Saturday attendance aligned with planned rest-days.


As the Maintenance Plant Technician you will be responsible for undertaking planned and reactive maintenance on all plant and services to provide maximum performance, efficiency and safety. Plant and services include boiler house, washroom services and all site-utilities. It also includes fire alarm systems, water supplies and supporting site security

Main Responsibilities of our Maintenance Plant Technician

Undertake Health & Safety checks on plant, buildings and services to ensure all regulations are adhered to React to all plant breakdowns quickly and effectively, working closely with Engineering manager to determine task priority. To determine if assistance is required and to keep advised on progress Undertake planned and preventative maintenance in accordance with the planned maintenance system and any plant/service documentation Operate the maintenance CMMS and stock systems, including determining what work is required, updating the system with completed tasks and managing day-to-day stock use and requirements

What we are looking for in our Maintenance Plant Technician:

You will have:

An approved apprenticeship or other vocational working experience that confirms suitable exposure and training for the chosen trade. Knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Ability to solve plant breakdowns quickly and effectively. Ability to understand plant safety principles including Emergency Stops and other safety systems and an awareness to identify and rectify unsafe areas. Logically prioritise tasks to maintain Health & Safety standards and plant efficiency. Become an independent focal point for resolving site maintenance or breakdown issues as required. Ability to read plant/services documentation to assist in maintenance or breakdown resolution. Ability to communicate well with others, listening to ideas, and confident in making decisions to solve problems logically.

Whilst not essential, the following would be of benefit:

Academic qualification to harmonise and confirm the experience-based training (typically an NVQ achieved via an apprenticeship) Academic qualification inline with the chosen trade (BTEC/C&G)
