THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled
Maintenance Repair Carpenter/Engineer
with a background in bespoke, capital equipment manufacturing to join our dynamic team.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in optimizing a newly formed manufacturing process and scaling this process up for high volume production, ensuring product quality, and driving continuous improvement within our manufacturing operations. There is huge scope for advancement in an ambitious, newly formed, manufacturing business which has ambitious growth plans.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance & Repair
Carry out inspection, maintenance, and repair of wooden, composite, and panel-based fittings inside armoured vehicles (e.g., flooring, bulkheads, storage compartments, protective lining).
Diagnose faults and carry out corrective actions to restore structural integrity and functionality.
Support repair work on damage caused during production, testing, or operational use.
Fabrication & Installation.
Manufacture and install bespoke carpentry solutions (panels, flooring systems, seating bases, framework) according to technical drawings and military specifications.
Adapt designs and carry out modifications to accommodate engineering changes.
Use hand tools, power tools, and CNC equipment safely and effectively.
Engineering Integration.
Work alongside mechanical, electrical, and armour engineers to ensure carpentry components integrate with protective systems, wiring looms, weapon mounts, and crew safety features.
Assist with prototype builds and new product development trials.
Compliance & Safety.
Adhere to defence manufacturing standards, ISO 9001, and health & safety regulations.
Ensure carpentry and repair activities comply with fire resistance, ballistic protection, and vibration requirements of military vehicles.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, modifications, and maintenance activities.
Continuous Improvement.
Contribute to process improvements to enhance durability, weight efficiency, and ergonomic design of carpentry elements within vehicles.
Recommend material substitutions or design adjustments to improve production efficiency.
Carry out any reasonable ad-hoc duties requested by your direct Line Manager or the Management Team.
Always promote teamwork and co-operation, both within individual locations and right across the entire company.

Qualifications:
NVQ Level 3 (Carpentry & Joinery, Engineering Maintenance, or similar).
Apprenticeship in carpentry, mechanical maintenance, or fabrication.
Additional H&S or defence-related certifications (e.g., MOD compliance, ISO training) advantageous.
Essential
Time-served carpenter, joiner, or multi-skilled engineer with maintenance and repair experience.
Strong background in fabrication, woodworking machinery, and fitting.
Ability to interpret technical drawings, engineering schematics, and CAD outputs.
Experience working with wood, composites, laminates, and industrial adhesives.
Problem-solving skills with a hands-on, practical approach.
Knowledge of health, safety, and quality assurance in an engineering environment.
Desirable
Experience in defence, aerospace, automotive, or armoured vehicle manufacturing.
Understanding of ballistic and blast protection principles.
Forklift, overhead crane, or MEWP certification.
Welding, metal fabrication, or multi-trade repair skills.
Other
Good knowledge of English.
Good understanding of basic maths.
A highly motivated and confident individual with a strong desire to succeed.
A full British driving licence.
Residence and the right to work in the UK.
A valid passport.
Able to pass a DBS check.
