About the Role:

We are looking for a capable and proactive Management Accountant to support the day-to-day operations of our busy finance team. This is a hands-on role that requires solid accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach.

You will be responsible for processing transactions, supporting the production of accurate and timely management accounts, and assisting with compliance and reporting tasks. You'll also provide cover for bank reconciliations and holiday/absence cover for our Assistant Accountant.

You will work closely with the Finance Manager, providing support on a range of projects and departmental initiatives as required. This role offers excellent development opportunities for the right candidate, with scope to gain exposure to wider aspects of the finance function and contribute to continuous development. This role has no supervisory or line management responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily / Routine Tasks

Process purchase ledger (PL) invoices and credit notes. Suggest payment runs for the Finance Manager's approval. Monitor and respond to emails in the

accounts@

mailbox. Prepare and post journal entries for corrections and adjustments. Manage stock ordering for the business, including coordinating stock takes, suggesting reorders and sending out purchase orders to suppliers. Support the Finance Manager in delivering finance-related projects, process improvements, and reporting initiatives.

Month-End and Reporting

Support the month-end process, including:
- Preparing accruals and prepayments.

- Recording fixed asset additions and calculating depreciation.

Assist with the preparation of quarterly VAT returns. Compile payroll-related data from monthly reports:
- New starters and leavers.

- Overtime and unpaid absence premiums.

Assist with P11D preparation and other year-end compliance tasks. Support the preparation of management accounts up to balance sheet reconciliation. Contribute to variance reporting and financial analysis. Assist with internal and external audit preparation.

Other Responsibilities

Provide cover for:
- Bank reconciliations.

- The Assistant Accountant (during periods of holiday or absence).

Assist with monthly and quarterly ONS surveys by supplying accurate financial data. Carry out general administrative and finance support duties as needed. Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes.

Skills & Experience Required:

Minimum

AAT Level 3

, ideally working towards

AAT Level 4 (or equivalent)

At least 2 years' experience

working in a finance team. Strong understanding of transactional finance and double-entry bookkeeping. Experience supporting month-end processes, including journals and reconciliations. Proficient in Excel and Sage 50 (or similar finance packages). Strong attention to detail and organisational skills. Good communication skills and the ability to explain financial information clearly. Experience in VAT preparation, payroll data handling, or audit support is desirable but not essential.
