Role Outline:
The management accountant plays a critical role within the Finance Department, contributing to the efficient and accurate financial management of the business. The management accountant is responsible for maintaining reporting deadlines, preparing key financial data, contributing to audit processes, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations and statutory obligations.
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 09:00am - 17:00pm (37.5 hours per week).
Salary:
28,000 to 32,000 per annum.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
Maintain and update fixed asset register, ensuring accurate depreciation calculations, disposals and additions in line with Company policy and accounting standards.
Oversee and reconcile stock records, ensuring accurate valuation, identifying variances and supporting periodic stock takes to maintain inventory integrity.
Monitor accounts receivable and payable ledgers, investigating discrepancies and maintaining aged debt analysis.
Assess aged debtors and recommend appropriate provisions for bad debts in accordance with the Company policy progress in financial reports.
Prepare and post monthly journals for prepayment and accruals, ensuring accurate allocation of cost and income over relevant periods.
Calculate, analyse, and post monthly work in progress adjustments to ensure accurate representation of production progress in financial reports.
Conduct detailed reviews of the nominal ledger to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data, correcting mis-postings and inconsistencies as required.
Perform timely and accurate reconciliations of all bank accounts, investigating and resolving any variances.
Reconcile VAT control account on a monthly basis, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations and supporting the timely submission of VAT returns.
Manage and reconcile intercompany current accounts, ensuring that all balances are agreed and any differences and promptly resolved.
Track and account for hire purchase agreements, ensuring interest is accurately calculated and posted, and monthly reconciliations are performed.
Reconcile wage and salary control accounts, ensuring alignment with payroll reports and statutory deductions.
Assist in the preparation and maintenance of short and long-term cash flow forecasts, providing insight to support financial planning and decision-making.
Other Ad-Hoc tasks as required.
Person Specification:
AAT Level 3 qualified, with AAT Level 4 studies currently in progress (or equivalent).
Previous experience in a management accounting or similar financial role.
Strong understanding of core accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
High level of accuracy and excellent attention to detail, with the ability to analyse and manipulate financial data effectively.
Proficient time management skills, with the ability to priorities tasks and meet strict deadlines (e.g. production of the monthly accounts by the 10th of each month).
Able to work independently and use initiative to manage ad hoc tasks and responsibilities.
Strong multitasking abilities, with a flexible approach to supporting various functions within the finance department as needed.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to ensure timely and effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Experience with sage 200 and Microsoft Excel is preferred but not essential, as training and support will be provided.
