We are a private equity-backed sales, distribution and engineering business specialising in liquid products, with a complementary engineering division delivering fuel management solutions and related systems. The business has a strong market position, long-standing customer relationships and significant untapped potential to improve margins, professionalise operations and accelerate growth.
The investment thesis is centred on commercial excellence, operational discipline and scalable growth. The business now requires a high-calibre Managing Director to lead the next phase of value creation.
Role Overview
The Managing Director will have full P&L responsibility and will lead the business through a period of commercial transformation. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a strong sales orientation, the ability to drive pace and accountability, and the credibility to professionalise a team not historically accustomed to operating in a private equity environment.
The successful candidate will be expected to materially improve margin, embed data-driven decision making and build a high-performance culture across sales, engineering and operations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Provide clear, visible leadership to the business, setting direction, pace and expectations.
Translate the Board's value creation plan into executable commercial and operational initiatives.
Build a performance culture aligned with private equity ownership, with clear accountability and outcomes.
Commercial Growth & Margin Improvement
Lead the sales strategy across liquid product distribution and engineering solutions.
Drive improved pricing discipline, margin management and customer profitability.
Develop and manage a robust sales pipeline, forecasting process and CRM discipline.
Identify and execute opportunities for cross-selling, upselling and new market penetration.
Operational Excellence
Professionalise business operations through the implementation of KPIs, dashboards and management information.
Introduce data-driven reporting across sales, engineering delivery, margin and cash.
Improve efficiency, utilisation and delivery within the engineering arm.
Ensure strong working capital management, cost control and cash generation.
People & Culture
Lead, motivate and develop a team that is capable but not used to operating at pace.
Set clear performance expectations and implement structured performance management.
Strengthen the senior management team where required, including recruitment and succession planning.
Foster a culture of ownership, urgency and continuous improvement.
Governance & Stakeholder Management
Act as the primary interface with the private equity investors and Board.
Deliver accurate, timely reporting and insight on performance versus budget.
Ensure appropriate governance, compliance and risk management across the business.
