Job Purpose



The Back Shift Supervisor plays a critical role in the smooth and efficient running of the manufacturing department during back shift operations. This role is responsible for supervising production teams, maintaining quality and safety standards, meeting production targets, and ensuring that all processes run effectively and efficiently in line with company procedures and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities



Supervise and coordinate day-to-day manufacturing operations during the back shift. Ensure production targets are met while maintaining product quality, food safety, and hygiene standards. Lead, motivate, and support the back shift team to achieve departmental KPIs. Monitor production lines and workflow, proactively resolving any issues or bottlenecks. Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with BRCGS, HACCP, and company policies. Conduct shift handovers effectively, communicating key updates to incoming/outgoing supervisors and management. Oversee the set-up, operation, and changeovers of production equipment as required. Maintain accurate production records, downtime logs, and reporting documentation. Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring all staff follow Health & Safety procedures and wear required PPE. Support training and development of production team members. Identify opportunities for process improvement, waste reduction, and efficiency gains.

Skills & Experience Required



Essential:



Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role within food manufacturing or FMCG environment. Strong leadership, communication, and people management skills. Good understanding of food safety, quality assurance, and health & safety requirements. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight production deadlines. Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable:



Knowledge of BRCGS, HACCP, GMP, and continuous improvement principles (e.g., Lean / 5S). Experience with production reporting and shift handovers. Basic IT literacy for reporting and data entry.
