The Marine Manager is responsible for the management and administration of all HISC marine services. This includes RYA Training, Racing, Cruising and youth in all its forms, in accordance with direction from the General Manager and Committees, and within the framework set by the club rules, by-laws, 5-year business plan and annual budgets. The Marine Manager will attend committees' meetings as required. This role is administrative and physical one.
Responsibilities
Providing management support to the General Manager, Flag Officers and committees to ensure that the club meets annual budgets and targets.
Oversee the HISC RYA training calendar. Work with the Committees to maximise events within the club. Co-ordinate with the GM to publicise the sailing calendar.
Co-ordination and delivery of all HISC Training Courses. Oversee and work with the Chief Instructor of all HISC Club training activity. Sign off Risk Assessments as acting Senior Instructor.
Manage all marine staff including Tender drivers and instructors, ensuring that objectives and targets are set and monitored through regular appraisals, personal and team meetings.
Induct and train staff in the Marine Department's safe operating practices and Health and Safety procedures.
The maintenance, allocation and management of HISC Hire Services including hire boats.
Ensuring all boat launch and recovery services are delivered, all powerboats launched when required. RS Elites launched according to schedule.
Delivery & maintenance of equipment required for racing and training in all its forms.
Maintain all marine equipment, boats, plant, machinery and moorings to the standards set by the club policies and committees.
Maintain a satisfactory renewal programme for the boats and equipment, seek its approval through the appropriate committees.
Maintain marine budgets, sign off expenses where they are within the budget and seek approval where they are over budget.
Deliver the Winter Lay-up Programme, including boat hoist and lifting operations, to maximise income and operational efficiency.
Manage mooring allocation. Invoice mooring holders, maintain waiting lists and offer moorings, within the guidelines set by the club, when they become available.
Manage Boat Parking according to the policy set by the Sailing and Racing Committees. Allocate parking to visiting boats and brief staff as required.
Attend committee meetings as required and report to relevant committees on activities in the marine department.
Manage/oversee the HISC RYA SOP, liaise with the RYA and pass RYA inspections. Liaise with AALA and pass AALA inspections.
Manage the club's Health and Safety Policy within the Marine Department, ensure it is maintained and adhered to. Ensure the crew are adequately briefed and have relevant training as required. Ensure paperwork is up to date.
Maintain marine rotas and work schedules, holiday entitlement, sick leave and return to the General Manager monthly.
Manage the provision of facilities for Open Events, for example, extra car park space, boat park space, launch facilities.
Management of the HISC Tender service in all its forms and requirements.
Additional Requirements of the Marine Manager
The Marine Manager will be expected to be available to members with an ability to communicate easily and openly building a friendly rapport with the club's membership.
Standard working hours are 0800-1600 hrs, but flexibility is essential due to the seasonal and event-driven nature of marina operations at the club. The Marina Manager will be expected to adjust their schedule to accommodate weekends, evenings, and peak activity periods, especially during summer and club event days.
The Marine Manager is expected to have a good understanding of Race Management, Moorings, Boats and Equipment and experience of managing people.
