Job Description

Working within a small team delivering the Company's annual programme of Specialist Event Markets including a number of award-winning Christmas Markets and Events in town and city centre locations and other venues throughout the UK you will play a crucial role in the on the ground delivery, set up and effectively manage the markets and events from inception to completion.

You will maintain the highest standards of customer care, develop strong relationships with colleagues, clients' representatives, traders and our suppliers, and develop a sense of place that will make our markets/events a key destination for locals and visitors alike. Be the first point of call for queries and questions from clients, traders and customers regarding and during our markets and events.

This is a hands-on operational management role within the Market and Event industry which will require an element of manual work and a great deal of walking during each day. Hours are to meet the needs of the event and business which means long hours on set up and close-down days with unsociable hours and working weekends/public holidays. Working compacted hours between middle of February and December you can expect to be away on events from 4 days each week up to six-week periods for the Christmas Market season with a full monthly salary paid between January to December.

Responsibilities



To oversee and manage assigned markets/events including day to day direction and management of traders/vendors, onsite contractors including cleaning and security personnel to ensure a safe and successful event.

In line with Event Management Plans and Layout plans mark out each event layout allocating pitches considering the impact on adjacent businesses, mix of trading commodities selected and position of generators and other infrastructure.

Support Operational Management in the planning and organising of markets/events to help create an interesting, vibrant event that meets and exceeds the clients' requirements.

Ensure the safe handling and maintenance of all company equipment including safe storage/transportation, carrying out cleaning, basic repairs, and reporting damage/loss to the line Manager.

Erect/derig distribute advertising air flags, promotional scrim, barriers etc. paying attention to health and safety requirements, safe handling and care of company's equipment to enhance the site.

Ensure company vehicles are well maintained, kept clean and stocked as per company procedures.

Assist with the management of our trader database, dealing with enquiries, identifying and filling commodity gaps, supporting traders with registration and applications and communicating actions/decisions to traders promptly.

Collect all payments from traders, recording transactions and issuing receipts. Balancing and reconciliation of all fees and other charges, completing financial returns and other documentation for that market in accordance with Company procedures.

Advocating for the company and individual markets/events by contributing to the company's social media and marketing as appropriate and by providing regular quality photographs and updates to Head Office.

Communicate effectively with diverse teams, clients, customers, traders and their staff to ensure standards met and maintained. To successfully engage with market traders to support the business development opportunities for individual traders to allow them to be sustainable and profitable. and to ensure full compliance with our and the client's terms and conditions of trading.

Ensuring that all processes and practices are delivered within health and safety guidelines, and that all staff, traders and customers are always in a clean and safe working environment.

Manage time and administrative tasks to ensure smooth operations and compliance with company policies.

Skills and Qualifications



Markets/Events Management experience.

Experience in working with managing/supporting small self-employed businesses.

Ideally candidates will have some qualification/experience in the following: -

First Aid

Health and Safety (IOSH)

Food Hygiene Food Safety to Level 2 as a minimum

Personal Licence Holder

An understanding of The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, also known as Martyn's Law

The National Diploma in Market Administration

Subject to the successful candidate's experience/qualification in these areas full Training will be offered to the successful candidates in these areas of the job.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work to tight deadlines and in a pressurised environment.

Excellent management of stakeholder relationships.

The successful applicant will be paid for a 40-hour working week but be required to work a compressed irregular work pattern, working flexibly across the markets operating times and days (including Saturdays and Sundays and some public holidays). This is managed within the team, where you book time off in lieu earned regularly with an extended time off period in January/February due to the hours worked at our Christmas events.
