Job Description

Axminster Tools, Head Office

Marketing Designer (maternity contract)

Axminster Tools has been championing the craft of woodworking for over 50 years. As a family-run business, our purpose is to support woodworkers at every stage of their journey, helping them create lasting work with tools and guidance they can trust.

We focus entirely on woodworking, choosing and developing tools based on real workshop needs and the feedback we've gained over decades. Our heritage guides us as we blend traditional craft with modern engineering and sustainable thinking. As we grow our brand and digital presence, we're looking for a Designer who can help bring our story to life and inspire the next generation of makers.

About the role

We are looking for a full time (37.5 hours) Designer to join our Head Office in Axminster, Devon, on a 12-month maternity contract.

In this role, you will be responsible for creating design concepts and layouts, progressing them through to final artwork. You will deliver engaging, on-brand design solutions across a variety of channels including website homepages, landing pages, brand pages, blogs, email marketing, social media, articles, banners and print.

Working within a collaborative team, you will respond creatively and effectively to briefs, develop ideas that support our brand vision and ensure all output maintains a consistent and high-quality style.

Responsibilities

? Produce high-quality design concepts, layouts and final artwork for a variety of assets
? Work from briefs to generate creative solutions that meet brand and commercial objectives
? Collaborate with the wider marketing and content teams to ensure consistency across all channels
? Develop and refine ideas, presenting them clearly within the team
? Work effectively within established brand guidelines and visual style
? Deliver work accurately and on time within a fast-paced environment
? Support wider marketing initiatives with design input when required
? Maintain strong organisation and version control of assets
? Create, schedule and maintain campaigns using a variety of content management systems

Skills & Experience

We are interested in hearing from you if you have professional design experience and a strong understanding of delivering high-quality artwork.

You will:
? Be proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign (or equivalent design applications)
? Demonstrate strong layout, typography and visual design skills
? Be able to interpret briefs effectively and communicate your ideas clearly
? Work confidently within a team, contributing to discussions and supporting project delivery
? Have strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise multiple tasks
? Be able to work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines
? Bring enthusiasm, creativity and a positive approach to every project

Experience in design for e-commerce, retail or content-driven environments is advantageous but not essential.
