Tilly's Tutoring is a small, supportive local tuition company offering personalised learning from early years through to A-Level. We specialise in making home education accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for all learners, with a strong focus on supporting families and adapting to individual learning needs.
We are expanding our team and looking for a passionate, reliable tutor to join us.
Role Overview
We are seeking a friendly and enthusiastic Maths and Science Tutor (up to GCSE) with the potential to also teach English. Training and support will be provided for English if needed.
This role involves delivering high-quality 1:1 tuition, both online and face-to-face, from:
The student's home,
The tutor's home, or
Tilly's Tutoring Office in Grimsby.
You will work with a range of learners, including those who are home educated, neurodivergent, or experiencing mental health challenges. This position is ideal for someone who is adaptable, empathetic, and committed to making learning a positive experience.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver engaging and personalised 1:1 Maths and Science tuition up to GCSE level.
Provide English tuition where required (training and resources can be provided).
Plan and deliver lessons tailored to each student's needs, abilities, and learning goals.
Communicate effectively with parents/carers regarding progress and support needs.
Use a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate neurodivergent learners and students with mental health challenges.
Maintain accurate session notes and uphold Tilly's Tutoring safeguarding and professional standards.
Travel to students' homes where necessary or host sessions at your own home or Tilly's office.
Requirements
Essential:
Strong subject knowledge in Maths and Science up to GCSE.
Excellent communication skills and a student-centred approach.
Ability to work independently and reliably.
Availability for at least 2 evenings per week.
Willingness to deliver both online and in-person tuition.
A nurturing, patient approach to teaching.
Desirable:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching/tutoring experience.
Experience working with neurodivergent learners (e.g., ADHD, autism) or students with mental health difficulties.
DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
Experience working with home-educated children.
