The Role

  • Planning and delivering lessons: Designing lesson plans that align with curriculum objectives and cater to the needs and abilities of your students. This involves selecting appropriate mathematical topics, organizing content, and developing engaging activities to enhance students\xe2\x80\x99 understanding of mathematical concepts.
  • Teaching mathematical concepts: Explaining and demonstrating mathematical concepts, such as numbers, operations, algebra, geometry, statistics, and probability. You\xe2\x80\x99ll provide instruction on mathematical principles, formulas, and problem-solving strategies, ensuring students have a solid foundation in mathematical knowledge.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking: Developing students\xe2\x80\x99 problem-solving skills and fostering their ability to think critically and analytically. You\xe2\x80\x99ll guide students in applying mathematical concepts to real-world situations, encouraging them to solve problems creatively and logically.
  • Differentiated instruction: Adapting your teaching methods to accommodate diverse student needs and learning styles. You\xe2\x80\x99ll provide support and enrichment activities to ensure all students are appropriately challenged and can make progress.
  • Assessment and feedback: Evaluating students\xe2\x80\x99 mathematical understanding and progress through assessments, quizzes, tests, and assignments. Providing constructive feedback to students on their work and offering guidance on areas for improvement.
  • Technology integration: Incorporating technology tools and resources into math instruction, such as graphing calculators, educational apps, interactive websites, and mathematical software. Utilizing technology can enhance students\xe2\x80\x99 engagement, visualization of mathematical concepts, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Classroom management: Creating a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and engaging in mathematical discussions. Managing student behaviour, facilitating cooperative learning, and promoting a supportive classroom culture.
  • Collaboration and professional development: Collaborating with colleagues, attending math workshops, conferences, and staying updated with the latest trends and best practices in math education. Engaging in continuous professional development to enhance your teaching skills and knowledge of math pedagogy.
  • Individualised support: Providing individualized support to students who may be struggling with specific math concepts. Offering additional instruction, resources, or tutoring to help students overcome challenges and achieve success in mathematics.
  • Connecting math to the real world: Helping students understand the relevance and practical applications of mathematics in everyday life, as well as in other fields of study and professions. Demonstrating how math is used in various industries and careers can motivate students and show them the value of mathematical knowledge.
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Appropriate degree, with UK PGCE, or other teaching qualification giving QTS
  • Minimum two years\xe2\x80\x99 teaching experience
  • Familiarity with the National Curriculum of England (plus IGCSE/GCSE and/or A Levels as appropriate)
