Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Primary Tutor for a face-to-face role in DA16. The student is a 7-year-old who requires in-person tuition due to difficulties with online learning. They have cerebral palsy, affecting motor skills, memory, and concentration, and are currently working at a preschool level for writing.
The focus areas will be reading development (phonics, primary and secondary sounds) and writing support, using engaging and interactive methods. The tutor must also provide quarterly progress reports to the student's educational psychologist.
This role is ideal for a patient and creative tutor with at least 3 years of tutoring experience, particularly with SEN (Special Educational Needs) students.
Responsibilities:
Deliver structured, engaging, and interactive face-to-face lessons in the student's home (DA16).
Focus on early reading and writing skills, adapting lessons to accommodate motor skill challenges.
Implement play-based learning to improve concentration and engagement.
Work alongside the student's existing school support team.
Provide quarterly progress reports to the educational psychologist and legal team.
Qualifications:
A qualified primary school teacher or an experienced primary tutor.
Proven experience working with SEN students, particularly those with cerebral palsy or motor skill challenges.
Strong understanding of phonics and early reading strategies.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage young learners in a fun and supportive way.
Patience, creativity, and a passion for teaching.
Further Requirements:
Must be able to commit to weekly, face-to-face lessons in DA16 (Mondays and Thursdays unavailable).
Ability to create structured yet engaging lessons tailored to the student's needs.
Experience writing detailed progress reports.
A genuine interest in education and supporting young students' growth.
Ability to pass a DBS check and provide two references from past employers or academic mentors.
