We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual with relevant experience to provide high level of support to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.
The Mayor is a symbol of our Authority and Open Society and an expression of social cohesion. The Mayor is the 'First Citizen' of the Borough and carries out ceremonial functions and civic duties, so therefore we are seeking an Officer who can undertake chauffeuring duties and provide advice and support to the Mayor and Mayoress/Deputy Mayor/Deputy Mayoress/Consort on Civic Protocols.
The successful applicant will have a clean driving licence, be of smart appearance, assertive and confident with the ability to prioritise a busy workload. They will also require excellent communication and written skills and the ability to remain calm and reliable under pressure are also essential. They will need to have a strong administrative background; be detail focused and capable of processing a large volume of correspondence; be well organised in their approach to their daily work; and able to work collaboratively with the rest of the team. They will also need to be confident in drafting letters, using their established IT skills to meet strict deadlines.
The successful candidate should have a sound understanding of local government structures, politics, and civic protocols, and experience of working with elected officials and high-profile individuals. They are required to monitor the Mayor's inbox and social media channels for issues raised and work with colleagues to ensure the efficient and timely flow of information to and from the Mayor.
This post holder is required to work unsocial hours, including evenings and weekends and public holidays and have a flexible approach to working hours. They will be required to attend Civic events and engagements with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
