Role Summary




The Mechanical Contracts Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of multiple mechanical installation contracts across commercial construction environments. Operating between our Newhouse office and active project sites, this position provides strategic oversight of the mechanical delivery function, ensuring projects are completed safely, profitably, on programme, and to the highest quality standards.

Core Responsibilities



Contract & Project Delivery Oversight



Oversee the delivery of multiple mechanical contracts across commercial building services projects, ensuring consistent performance across all sites. Provide leadership and direction to Mechanical Project Managers to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and in line with specifications. Maintain full visibility of programme progress, labour planning, procurement status, and commissioning activities across all live contracts. Support project teams in resolving escalated technical, operational or contractual issues.

Leadership & Team Management



Directly manage and mentor Mechanical Project Managers, ensuring high standards of site management, reporting and team performance. Coordinate workforce allocation across projects, ensuring resources are effectively planned and utilised. Promote a strong culture of accountability, professionalism and continuous improvement within the mechanical delivery team. Support recruitment, onboarding and development of staff in the mechanical team.

Commercial & Contractual Management



Work closely with the commercial team to manage contract performance, cost control, valuations, variations, and final accounts. Ensure Mechanical Project Managers are capturing and communicating changes and variations accurately. Monitor project margins, labour spend, procurement, and subcontractor performance to ensure commercial targets are achieved. Contribute to contract reviews, forecasting and strategic planning with senior management.

Quality, Compliance & Safety



Ensure all mechanical installations meet relevant building regulations, industry standards and PREAH quality expectations. Conduct regular audits and site inspections to verify workmanship, commissioning readiness and compliance. Drive consistent implementation of health and safety procedures across all mechanical contracts. Lead investigations and corrective actions where safety or quality concerns arise.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement



Act as a senior point of contact for clients, consultants and main contractors across multiple projects. Attend key progress meetings and represent PREAH's mechanical delivery function at a contractual level. Support strong working relationships with external stakeholders to ensure expectations are managed and exceeded. Provide regular updates and reporting to the Operations Manager on project performance, risks and opportunities.

Operational Planning & Coordination



Oversee procurement strategies and ensure timely availability of materials, plant and subcontract services. Support programme planning across all projects, ensuring smooth delivery through installation and commissioning stages. Assist in pre-construction planning, project handovers and mobilisation of new contracts. Ensure project documentation, reporting systems and delivery procedures are consistently applied.

Skills & Qualifications



Proven experience in a Mechanical Contracts Manager or Senior Project Management role within building services or commercial construction. Strong technical understanding of HVAC, plumbing, heating, pipework systems, plantrooms and commissioning processes. Demonstrable leadership experience managing multiple project teams and site operations. Excellent commercial awareness with experience supporting valuations, variations and cost control. Strong knowledge of health & safety regulations, industry compliance standards and contract delivery frameworks. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project reporting tools. Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related discipline (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent).

Working Conditions




This is a hybrid role, combining office-based responsibilities with frequent site visits across PREAH's active commercial construction projects. The Mechanical Contracts Manager must be adaptable, highly organised and capable of managing multiple priorities across different project locations. Occasional extended hours may be required to meet programme milestones, client demands or commissioning deadlines.
