This is an opportunity for an experienced Medical Secretary to join our expanding team in a long established hospital. The role is to provide secretarial and administrative support to busy surgical consultants. It is therefore essential that you have proven recent medical secretarial background gained within a private hospital/clinic setting in order to keep up with this busy yet rewarding role.

The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital was established in Aylesbury in 1832. and has provided services and treatments to thousands of people from across the region.
The ownership of the hospital was transferred to our new management team in January 2023. By joining our existing portfolio, the hospital is now a family owned business and provides clinical care to both private, insured and NHS patients, with a strong ethos on caring for our staff.
The clinical outcomes of the hospital are of the highest standards. The latest CQC report rated our hospital standards as good across all parameters.
Extensive rejuvenation of the estate and updating of the clinical facilities has already started. Phase one of the projects includes refurbishment of the outpatient area and reception. Phase 2 includes construction and set up of a comprehensive radiology service including CT and MRI, construction of operating theatre and endoscopy suites.

Desired experience and skills:
Previous experience as a medical secretary.
Demonstrable experience of billing of medical insurance fees.
Review and accurate editing of externally transcribed letters.
Accurate audio transcription of clinic letter when required.
Ability to work with other members of the the team.
Administrative Duties include:
Being first point of contact for calls from patients, hospital staff and GPs.
Ensuring professionalism and excellent customer service at all times.
Patient billing, approving invoices, ensure pricing and theatre costs are accurately captured.
Prepare and manage clinic and theatre appointments/lists.
Deal with referral letters and onward referrals.
Organising and booking of theatre lists at partner hospitals.
Liaise with patients on all matters relating to the arrangement and organisation of appointments, referrals, correspondence, follow up, and any matters as delegated by the consultant.
Document management; dealing with all correspondence, typing, faxing, filing, scanning, archiving.
Ensure prompt and accurate response of all patient related and general correspondence.
Diary management of some consultant for all clinical and medical business-related activity.

Desired Skills
AMSPAR Diploma in Medical Secretaries (or equivalent).
Medical Terminology course (AMSP).
GDPR knowledge.
Audio typing experience, and 50+ wpm typing speed.
Excellent working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Outlook.
