The post holder will be responsible for the service provision of a timely, clinically critical laboratory service within the Microbiology department based at the Sutton site but covering activity from all RM sites. The post holder will provide an expert diagnostic service both for the Microbiology lead clinician & IPC nursing leads and also particularly for those in the clinical haemato-oncology and Stem Cell Processing departments operating the bone marrow transplant service (Sutton), in conformance with the Cancer Plan and as required by CPA, JACIE and HTA and for the Critical Care Unit at Chelsea.
The post holder will be responsible for the direction and operational management of the Medical Microbiology laboratory, staff (20) and budgets (2.14 million), ensuring appropriate and cost-effective purchasing arrangements for equipment and materials, and the recruitment of and delivery of training to BMS and other staff within the Department to ensure continuity of service at all times. The post holder has a specific role in relation to infection prevention and control with a requirement to deliver services in conformance with government targets for investigating and reporting key organisms.

About you:
HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist (or equivalent qualification)
Significant senior experience in microbiology laboratory management
Strong knowledge of quality management systems and accreditation processes
