Driver - Transport Operator - September 2025 start



We seek positive and upbeat person to join our excellent in-house support team. Previous experience in driving is ideal and training will be given. We are offering a part-time role, requiring approximately 10 to 12.5 hours per week (around 2 - 2.5 hours per day, depending on route). There may be flexibility in the number of hours offered, to be determined at the time of appointment.

Hours of work are variable but mostly fall in the morning 6.00 am to 8.30 am; Monday to Friday during term time (approx. 32 weeks pa); some additional hours may also available.

Grade B (FTE salary: 23,781-25,986, Hourly rate: 14.46-15.80 incl. Holiday pay)

Main Purpose



To support the teaching staff, to meet the academic, pastoral and other needs of pupils thereby enabling all pupils to achieve the full potential by; completing transport duties in accordance with an agreed schedule and to a required standard to ensure that pupils enjoy a comfortable, safe, clean and well maintained transport service and environment in which to work.

The main purpose of this function is to drive OPS vehicles in a lawful, responsible, safe and competent manner and supervise pupils to and from school.

To assist the Bursar in the provision of support arrangements for Orwell Park School.

Specific Responsibilities and tasks

:

The job description does not form part of the contract of employment and may be varied in accordance with the demands of the role. The main duties and responsibilities are as follows:

Driving a minibus. Responsible for the health and safety, comfort and welfare of pupils and staff. Carrying out daily vehicle checks and basic maintenance (checking oil levels etc) and recording these. Reporting any vehicle defects, faults, incidents and accidents to the Transport Coordinator. Ensuring the vehicle is in a clean and roadworthy condition before and after use. Refuelling the vehicles as required. Liaising with service engineers about inspections and any maintenance that may be required. Covering for absent colleagues. Maintaining the School's image; working attire should be worn at all times and kept in
a clean and tidy condition.

Working within health and safety guidelines and other guidelines that may be issued
from time-to-time.

Attending any relevant training courses as identified and agreed. Undertake any other work as reasonably requested by the Bursar or Headmaster. Be familiar with the School's Safeguarding Policy and comply with its requirements to
safeguard and protect the welfare of children.

All OPS staff have a part to play in supporting the School's ethos, understanding pupil
safeguarding requirements and promoting the best possible image to parents and prospective parents.

Person Specification



The successful candidate must have the following:

Clean driving licence (held for at least 2 years). Experience driving a large vehicle. Pleasant, patient and helpful personality. An ability to communicate with a range of different people. Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team. Reliable and trustworthy Flexible approach to working arrangements Good organisational ability. Enjoy working in a school environment.
The successful candidate must have the following experience and skills:

Hold a current, clean and valid driving licence D1 unrestricted or a PCV licence or D1
restricted (car licence obtained prior to 01/01/1997)

Hold a CPC Age 25+ (for insurance purposes). Geographical knowledge of the local area. Competent to undertake vehicle checks and carry out basic maintenance. Familiarity with driving minibuses and/or passenger carrying vehicles and be keen to undertake further training on this like the MIDAS training scheme.

Outline Terms and Conditions



We are offering a part-time role, requiring approximately 12.5 hours per week (around 2.5 hours per day as needed). Multiple positions are available, and there may be flexibility in the number of hours offered, to be determined at the time of appointment.

Working Hours:



Monday to Friday, between 6:00 AM and 8:30 AM Term time only (during school terms) Flexibility may be required based on specific needs
The School operates a pension scheme which all non-teaching members of staff are eligible to join, both the school and member of staff contribute.

The post will be subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure check.
