Barbers Cheesemakers is the oldest and largest family-owned cheddar makers in the world and produce our award winning cheeses in the same dairy that we did back in 1833!
Our aim is to cultivate and nurture a family of employees, customers, suppliers and shareholders inspired to produce and promote worldwide, consistently great quality British cheese and dairy products of integrity, provenance and innovation.
Following an internal promotion an opportunity has arisen at AJ & RG Barber Ltd for an Electrical biased Multi Skilled Engineer in our Maintenance Team.
The Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer will work within a team of engineers to provide maintenance cover for the cheese production facility, in addition to the maintenance role, this role may require the candidate to work alongside others to complete in house project works on a minor project basis or provide support and assistance, as required, to the Site project team.
The site operates a rotating roster for engineers with the aim to maximize a healthy work life balance. The roster is based on an eight-week cycle providing factory and maintenance cover over weekends. A full copy of the working roster will be available on request.
The shifts are:
Early 6am-2pm
Days 8am-5pm there is an alternate Day shift with a later start, 9am-6pm and this is used for days where there is a transition from Lates to Days.
Lates 2pm-10pm
The role holder will spend one night on call every eight nights and this will coincide with a late shift, this is known as Late on call and varies from the standard late shift.
Late on call is based around completion of production, which depends entirely on levels of milk production, this Late on call shift is flexible, with a possible later start but rarely extends beyond 4pm to midnight.
Weekends are worked again on the eight-week cycle, where three weekends and an additional Saturday is required. This will be spaced with rostered rest days in the week, giving the opportunity for "long weekends" built into the roster.
For the majority of the year, weekend working will be to perform planned preventative maintenance, but during certain periods production runs on a Saturday and production will need to be covered. These days are generally shorter days with production completing around 6pm.
Cover for PPM shifts at weekends can be a normal day shift except where production is involved where the company requires an early shift and a late day, 8 hours to coincide with the finish time. Generally, there are three engineers rostered to be on shift at weekends and there will always be a technical support person at hand.
The candidate must be able to arrive at site within 45 minutes when on call.
The candidate must be energetic, hard working and enthusiastic to join our busy Team!
