Music Studios Technician

Oxford, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

About the role

The Faculty of Music proposes to appoint a fixed-term 0.5 FTE Music Studios Technician with effect from 1 October 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter, until 30 September 2026.

The purpose of this role is to provide dedicated studio support to Faculty of Music students and staff in the music studios at the new Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities. This post will be a dedicated resource for the Faculty of Music, but the postholder will work closely with the Music Studios Manager, who works jointly for the Music Faculty and the Schwarzman Centre.

The Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities is due to be completed in September 2025.

The building will include three music studios, designed and installed to the highest specifications with connectivity to the performance spaces in the building, which will include a 500-seat concert hall, 250-seat theatre, and black box immersive performance space. The studios are designed to be primarily creative compositional spaces, all highly flexible but with some individual bias between the three towards: experimental electronic composition; traditional ensemble recording; and composition for media and music production. Two of the studios will benefit from immersive loudspeaker systems to enable spatial research in composition and performance.

This position is offered on a part-time (0.5 FTE) basis. The hours and pattern of working will be agreed with the line manager.

About you

Applications are welcome from candidates with a relevant degree and/or experience in music recording, broad knowledge of studio software and hardware, and excellent communication and organisational skills.

This position is being offered on a fixed-term basis as the outcome and future need for the duties of the role are uncertain, because provision in this area is currently being developed as a result of the Faculty's move to the new Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities.
