Join Northern Gas Networks (NGN) as a

Network Analyst

, playing a role in the integrity, safety, and resilience of our gas assets. This is an engineering-led role, demanding a technical, analytical mindset and a passion for protecting and optimising essential infrastructure that serves millions.


Working as part of the

Investment Programme

team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of gas transportation by ensuring our infrastructure meets demand safely, reliably, and efficiently; not just for today's energy demands, but for the hydrogen-powered future.


You will work on a variety of projects, from modelling new connections to analysing how renewable gas and hydrogen will fit into the system. The work is diverse, one day you could be investigating pressure issues on the network, on the next, running models to test the impact of connecting new green energy sources. You will also play a key part in supporting our ambitious

East Coast Hydrogen (ECH)

project, which is set to transform the way energy is delivered across the region.


Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities




Asset Integrity at the Core:

You will be responsible for the technical analysis, modelling, and engineering assessment of our gas network, ensuring that every decision upholds the highest standards of asset integrity and operational safety

Model complex gas networks:

Apply advanced engineering tools (Falcon, Synergi, PRISM) to simulate, stress-test, and optimise the network under a variety of scenarios, including the integration of hydrogen and biomethane

Assess the impact of exit and entry connections

including hydrogen and biomethane, helping to integrate sustainable technologies into the network, and contribute to the development and delivery of future energy initiatives

Solve real-time operational challenges

Support investigations into pressure issues and operational incidents, using your engineering expertise to diagnose root causes and implement robust, sustainable solutions, responding to technical queries

Engineering Compliance and Best Practice:

Ensure all network planning and operational activities are fully aligned with internal engineering standards and external regulations, contributing to the development and continuous improvement of technical documentation and procedures

Cross-Disciplinary Engineering Collaboration:

Work closely with engineering teams, capital projects, and future energy teams to deliver multidisciplinary solutions that protect and enhance our infrastructure

What we are looking for




A strong engineering background, either through a degree in engineering or a technical discipline, or through relevant experience in engineering Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate engineering concepts clearly and effectively Strong numerical and mathematical ability, with a logical approach to problem-solving A team-player mindset, with the confidence to work independently when needed High attention to detail and the ability to work accurately to tight deadlines Proficiency in Microsoft Office

A Full UK driving licence is required,

as operational site visits and building appreciation of other NGN teams will be a mandatory and essential part of the role

Desirable - Understanding of the asset integrity and gas network. Experience with engineering modelling tools (Falcon, Synergi, PRISM) or a demonstrable aptitude for technical systems.

We deliver gas to 2.7 million homes and businesses in the North East, Northern Cumbria and much of Yorkshire. That's around 6.7 million individual customers. We don't generate or sell the gas, but we transport it to homes and businesses in our region through a vast network of underground pipes. In fact, we own and maintain more than 37,000km of gas pipes - enough to stretch from Leeds to Sydney and back again.
