Join the Mako IT Infrastructure team which is responsible for building and operating the complex technology foundation upon which the firm's operations are built. In this team, world-class engineers work together to build a highly reliable, low-latency platform to enable the firm's business.
The Network Engineer will work closely with Mako's trading, quant, developer and support teams.to deliver globally distributed WANs, LANs, Cloud, and exchange connectivity. The breadth of the team's responsibilities span ultra-low latency trading through to global unicast and multicast packet delivery, routing, switching, monitoring, automation and hardware implementation to both on-premise and co-located sites.
What you'll be involved in:

  • Planning and setting up network architecture, including LAN, WAN, intranet, and extranet.
  • Installing and configuring routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.
  • Monitoring and optimizing network performance, ensuring system availability and reliability, and performing regular maintenance and updates.
  • Diagnosing and resolving network problems promptly, providing Level-2/3 support.
  • Implementing security tools, policies, and procedures to protect network integrity.
  • Recording and documenting network setups and procedures.
  • Supporting a real-time, latency-sensitive trading operation spread across multiple global sites.
  • Disaster recovery, business continuity and high availability engineering.
  • Helping to drive the automation and efficiency of the network estate.
What we need from you:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A passion for automating processes and using an infrastructure-as-code mind-set
  • An open-minded and innovative approach and a desire to take initiative
  • 4+ years' experience working as a network engineer in an enterprise environment
  • Solid routing, switching and firewalling knowledge
  • Detailed knowledge of core network protocols such as TCP and UDP
  • Some experience of advanced networking protocols such as BGP, EIGRP, IGMP
  • Scripting skills for automation of network tasks e.g. Python, Ansible, NXAPI
  • Experience with financial, trading or low-latency environments is advantageous
  • Hands on experience working in colocation/datacentre facilities
