Job Description

The post holder is responsible for the collection, validation and quality assurance, of research-related data on behalf of the Neuro-oncology Brain Injury Research Group and collaborative groups, and to participate in relevant audits and service evaluation projects.



The post holder will supervise data collection and maintain database activity and aid data analysis as required within a number of work streams. The post holder will work with the Neuro-oncology Brain Injury Research Group . The Data Manager has overall responsibility for this data.



Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care to over 275,000 children and young people each year. In addition to the hospital site located in the West Derby area of Liverpool, Alder Hey has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients' homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Alder Park building in the nearby borough of Sefton.



We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We're also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.



Communication



To communicate effectively with all staff groups, using influencing and persuasion skills where there is reluctance, to ensure that complete data sets are provided.

Be able to communicate any concerns with data collection or analysis with the Neuro-oncology Brain Injury Research Group leads.



Analytical Skills



Use various data bases (including medical databases) and spreadsheets in order to manipulate and aid interpretation of data, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail, whilst working to tight deadlines to complete the data sets and produce reports.

Analyze data to identify trends, discrepancies, or gaps, and generate reports to inform service improvements or research.



Planning and Organising Skills



Accountable for managing and prioritizing the day-to-day data workload to meet deadlines for audit cycles and research studies. Maintain comprehensive data records for patients on complex care pathways involving multiple modalities. Use independent judgement to prioritize tasks and escalate issues that may impact data accuracy. Use initiative and set up, review and maintain office systems for data management. Attend training and workshops as required and take responsibility for own personal development along with support from colleagues and line manager.

Responsibility for Policy/Service Development



Review all systems pertaining to the data management workload making the necessary changes.

Responsibility for continually devising, reviewing and updating the standard operating procedures for data collection within the programme.



Responsibility for Financial and Physical Resources



Responsible for maintaining accurate data records, which may be used for future business cases and clinical audit but does not directly manage budgets.

Responsibility for Human Resources



This post holds no responsibility for supervising or managing team members.

Responsibility for Information Resources



Collect and collate relevant data from a variety of sources including case notes / patient databases, to ensure data integrity, completeness and quality within all of the databases.

Investigate any adverse data quality incidents

Carry out quarterly audits along with regular audits identifying missing data points leading to action planning to ensure improved completion compliance.

Lead on the maintenance of the Neuro-oncology database along with any development as needed.

To troubleshoot any problems that arise and to resolve any issues in a timely fashion.

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Access. Prolonged concentration will be required for working with the Neuro-oncology database.



Responsibility for Research and Development



The collection and analysis of data will be used for research purposes. Post-holder will be expected to be familiar with research governance related to data collection, handling and reporting * The post holder will also be expected to work closely with the clinical research division.
