We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Kitchen Cook to work in our charity run nursery. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food preparation and meal creation, ensuring that every dish meets our high standards of quality and presentation and the dietary requirements of all our children. The ideal candidate will have experience of working in childcare catering and will have a passion for menu creation and knowledge of working to budgets.
Duties
Manage the preparation and cooking of a variety of meals in accordance with established recipes and menu specifications.
Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene throughout the kitchen, including proper storage and handling of ingredients.
Monitor inventory levels of food supplies and ensure adequate levels of stock at all times.
Ensure that the kitchen is kept clean, organised, and free from hazards at all times.
Plan future menus based on suitable guidance and legislation.
Experience
Be able to demonstrate a positive interest in children's food and nutrition.
Plan, create and implement a nutritious and balanced food menu with fresh vegetables and fruit, ensuring a low sugar and salt content to meet the needs of our children.
Be able to prepare and cook healthy food for a large number of children.
Have a good understanding of food allergens and individual dietary requirements, and being responsible for adapting menus where necessary.
To follow standard food hygiene procedures (e.g. food temperature checks and monitoring).
Previous experience in a school / nursery kitchen environment is preferred but not essential; a willingness to learn is key.
