Job Summary

Nursery Rhymes are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced cook to provide healthy snacks and meals for the children attending, aged between 0 and 4 years.

We are looking for someone who shares our passion to provide the very best food and drinks for our little ones. All our food is freshly prepared without the use of ultra-processed foods. Our cook is part of the education team and part of the role will be to spend time with the children.

The cook will need to be familiar with the Voluntary Food and Drink Guidelines and be able to confidently prepare fresh food for the menu in line with these guidelines and within the Food for Life criteria.

The cook is responsible for preparing Morning snack, Lunch with Dessert, Afternoon snack, and a two course tea from our four week menu.

As there are children with special diets, they will need to be confident to prepare special diets for example: Dairy Free and Gluten free meals

Additional roles will include: Stock control, kitchen hygiene including washing up. The cook will be responsible for maintaining our 5 Start food hygiene rating through outstanding working practices.

There are opportunities for additional hours where the cook can be part of the staff team, educating the children around healthy eating, growing and food provenance.

Previous experience of working within the Safer Food Better Business guidance is essential

Hours of work

27.5 hours per week term time Mon-Fri 8:30am-2pm

20 hours school holidays Mon-Fri 9am-1pm

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff are subject to an enhanced DBS check. A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.
