Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic Nursery Cook to plan and prepare meals and snacks and manage the kitchen.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for catering for young children and have a demonstrable understanding of potential allergens and choking hazards, together with excellent food hygiene knowledge to maintain our '5' food standards rating.

Responsibilities

Prepare and cook healthy two course meals, afternoon teas and snacks for children aged 6 months and 4 years.

Ensure all food safety requirements are followed and kept up-to-date

Ensure excellent standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times in the kitchen

Contribute to the nursery's commitment to healthy living and encouraging children to try new foods, textures and tastes

Demonstrate a high level of awareness regarding allergens and dietary/cultural requirements

Work with management to devise interesting, healthy and enjoyable menus

Follow all policies and procedures relating to the setting

Complete all relevant records, monitoring and paperwork relating to kitchen activities.

Maintain confidentiality about the nursery, the children, their families or staff

To undertake any other duties, including cleaning of some communal areas, as required

Experience

Excellent awareness of hygiene standards

Experience of working in a professional kitchen

Qualification in cookery and food hygiene (preferable)

Professional appearance with a kind, friendly manner, able to relate to young children

Organised, able to use initiative and work under pressure staying calm

Able to work independently or as part of a team

Demonstrable understanding of potential allergens and choking hazards

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: 12.25-12.75 per hour
