As Third in Charge, you will play a key role in supporting the leadership team and ensuring the nursery runs smoothly, safely, and in full compliance with all regulatory standards. You will lead by example within your room, act as a senior practitioner, and step into management duties when required.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager with daily operations across the nursery.
Lead and supervise your designated room, ensuring a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment.
Role model best practice in care, learning, and child development.
Plan, deliver, and review age-appropriate activities aligned with the EYFS.
Mentor and guide team members, providing constructive feedback and support.
Maintain accurate records, observations, assessments, and safeguarding documentation.
Build strong, positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
Assist with operational tasks such as rota planning, resources, and quality improvements.
Step into management responsibilities during senior staff absence to ensure continuity.
About You
We are looking for a proactive, reliable, and passionate Early Years professional who is keen to develop their leadership career.
Requirements:
Level 3 qualification (or above) in Early Years or Childcare.
Experience working within a nursery setting, ideally with some supervisory or senior practitioner experience.
Strong knowledge of the EYFS, safeguarding, and early childhood development.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
A positive, hands-on attitude with the ability to support and motivate others.
A commitment to delivering high-quality childcare and learning outcomes.
