Purpose of the Role



The Registered Manager will lead, develop, and manage a therapeutic children's home that supports children aged 12-18 with emotional and behavioural difficulties. You will be responsible for ensuring the home delivers high-quality, trauma-informed care that promotes healing, stability, and positive outcomes. The post-holder must meet Ofsted requirements for a Registered Manager and uphold the Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards at all times.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Management



Provide strong, values-led leadership that models therapeutic practice, emotional warmth, and professional curiosity. Create and maintain a culture where children feel safe, respected, and emotionally held. Lead, supervise, and develop staff to deliver consistent trauma-informed care. Ensure staffing levels, training, and competencies support the therapeutic model.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance



Maintain full compliance with Ofsted, Children's Homes Regulations 2015, and the Quality Standards. Prepare for and lead Ofsted inspections, implementing improvement plans when required. Act as the Registered Manager with full accountability for the home's performance and regulatory rating. Produce accurate and timely monthly Regulation 45 reports and contribute to Regulation 44 visits.

Safeguarding & Risk Management



Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead for the home. Oversee all safeguarding concerns, liaising with external agencies as necessary. Embed a culture of reflective practice, ensuring risk assessments and behaviour support plans are dynamic and child-centred. Ensure therapeutic responses to behaviour replace punitive or outdated practices.

Therapeutic Practice & Care Planning



Implement and oversee a therapeutic model that integrates trauma-informed approaches, emotional regulation strategies, and relational care. Ensure each child has an individualised care plan informed by their history, needs, therapeutic goals, and voice. Work collaboratively with therapists, psychologists, social workers, and education providers. Promote outcomes around emotional stability, identity, education, independence, and family relationships.

Operational & Financial Oversight



Manage the home's budget, resources, and occupancy to ensure financial sustainability. Oversee household operations including maintenance, health & safety, and adherence to policies and procedures. Ensure effective rota planning that supports both staff wellbeing and therapeutic consistency.

Partnership Working



Build strong relationships with local authorities, commissioners, health professionals, and external partners. Represent the home at professional meetings, reviews, and multi-agency forums. Advocate for the rights, needs, and aspirations of the children in your care.

Children's Voice & Positive Culture



Ensure children's voices shape their care plans, daily routines, and the overall culture of the home. Promote participation, empowerment, and opportunities for children to thrive. Champion diversity, equality, and inclusion in all areas of practice.

Person Specification Essential



Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or working towards). Minimum of 2 years' experience in a senior role within a children's residential setting. Understanding of trauma, attachment, EBD, and therapeutic care principles. Strong knowledge of Ofsted frameworks, Children's Homes Regulations, and safeguarding procedures. Demonstrable leadership skills and the ability to motivate, develop, and retain a team. Excellent communication, organisational, and decision-making abilities. Ability to remain calm, reflective, and child-centred in challenging situations.

Desirable



Experience managing a therapeutic or specialist EBD home. Additional therapeutic training (e.g., PACE, Trauma-Informed Practice, Dyadic Developmental Practice). Experience of working in multi-disciplinary environments.
