Overview of Role
As Operations Manager you will be part of the management team and will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
You will be a safety and quality advocate, understand behavioural based safety models and have a broad understanding of Health and Safety Legislation and quality assurance.
Not averse to getting your hands dirty, you will have responsibility for the delivery of Synaptec's operational performance, ensuring projects are completed on time, at cost, and to a high level of quality, from system design, through production and testing, to delivery and commissioning. You will be joining a growing company and will therefore be expected to identify, implement, develop and maintain systems and processes that enable and drive sustainable growth.
You will work closely with the engineering teams to on-board new products, designs and processes, and to identify, qualify and monitor partner organisations for outsourced manufacturing and delivery at scale.
You must have excellent leadership skills, social skills, and a dependable and structured approach to tasks. You will be an effective communicator and, as the organisation grows, be instrumental in the development of Synaptec's culture to ensure the workplace remains a healthy, positive, and productive place to work. You will be an effective coach and mentor and relish developing your staff and improving their performance, individually and collectively.
As a senior appointment, you will require a good working understanding of finances, supply chain management, and contracts to enable you to drive toward the best commercial outcomes.
This is a full-time post based at the Company's facilities in Glasgow. Occasional site visits or short-term working at client or supplier sites may be required.
The principal objectives of the role are:
Deliver excellence throughout Synaptec's manufacturing and customer support operations
Ensure that the workplace is a safe environment for all staff
Ensure all operations are conducted in a high-quality, cost-effective manner
Manage our manufacturing resource planner (MRP) and ensure it is fully utilised to manage projects, production, stocking, and billings
Improve operational management systems, processes, and implement best practices
Manage our project delivery process from receipt of order, through production and testing, delivery and commissioning, and subsequent post-sales support
Onboard and monitor outsourced contract manufacturing, installation and commissioning
Work closely with Engineering to onboard new products, designs, and processes
Formulate strategic and operational objectives
Examine financial data and use them to improve profitability
Perform quality controls and monitor and report on production KPIs
Recruit, supervise and develop staff reporting to the position
Find ways to increase quality of customer service
Essential criteria
Proven work experience as Operations Manager, or similar senior engineering/industrial role
Experience with electronics manufacturing or assembly
Experience with budgeting and forecasting
A strong desire to participate in growing an outstanding team and company Familiarity with business and financial principles
Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
Outstanding organisational skills
Good verbal and written communication skills and attitude, with an ability to discuss technical information in clear and simple terms with colleagues and customers
Differentiating criteria
Experience and capability in contract management and negotiation and/or large procurement exercises
Experience with precision instrumentation and/or fibre optics
Prior experience in a high-growth or scale-up SME environment
