Carnival House

, our beautiful community space in Southwick, Sunderland. We deliver creative workshops, performances, and community events, and produce large-scale outdoor spectacles that bring colour and joy to the region. Our work champions community engagement, creativity, and accessibility - making the arts available to everyone.

We are now seeking an

experienced and dynamic Operations & Marketing Lead

to help grow our audiences, increase footfall at Carnival House, and support the smooth delivery of our diverse programme. This is a varied role that blends marketing, operations, and event support - perfect for someone highly organised, creative, and excited by the idea of working in a fast-paced arts environment.

Key Responsibilities



Plan, create, schedule, and distribute digital and physical marketing materials for events, classes, and workshops. Contribute ideas for new events and classes, liaising with freelance artists and external facilitators. Manage and update the company's social media channels, website, and email newsletters to engage audiences and grow reach. Capture and edit photos and videos for promotional use. Manage internal and external event schedules and calendars. Respond promptly to customer enquiries via phone, email, social media, and in-person. Support the organisation and delivery of large-scale external events, including creating detailed event plans. Assist with event set-up and pack-down, and greet/check in customers. Liaise with the cafe and bar team to share event details and develop special offers. Manage the marketing budget efficiently and report on activity. Occasionally assist behind the bar during busy events.

Person Specification - Essential



Minimum

3 years' experience

in a marketing or operations role (arts or cultural sector experience desirable). Confident, creative, and proactive in generating new ideas and partnerships. Skilled in using

Adobe Photoshop

,

Canva

, or similar creative software. Experience managing websites with

Wix

or a similar CMS. Strong social media skills, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok content creation. Experience scheduling content via

Meta Business Suite

. Demonstrable experience managing a commercial programme or venue. Skilled in creating newsletters using

Mailchimp

or similar. Strong administrative, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Person Specification - Desirable



Technical knowledge of audio and visual aspects of live events. Confident presenting or hosting events. Video editing skills. Experience working in a cafe/bar environment.
