Harvey Nash\xe2\x80\x99s public sector client are currently looking to recruit an Oracle Database Engineer to join their team based in Edinburgh/Remotely for an initial 6 month period.

Assignment Description:

The organisation is looking for a Database Engineer with solid commercial AWS development experience. This is required to accelerate the organisation\xe2\x80\x99s move from legacy on-prem databases to new cloud-native solutions. This might be a developer with strong database design and administration skills, or vice-versa. The focus is developing shared CDK constructs to be consumed by multiple development teams across the organisation for new and migrated databases.

The constructs will embody practical standards for database architecture and quality, allowing centralised assurance. One of their key projects is to migrate their legacy Oracle estate off SPARC hardware. They are looking at several alternative solutions such as hosting in the cloud, virtual machines, or different hardware options. The preferable candidate would have prior Oracle experience, in particular knowledge of migration method to stable platforms such as AWS RDS.

Essential Skills:

Significant commercial experience with the following technology:

  • Oracle
  • AWS IAM, S3, EC2
  • Serverless (Lambda)
  • Typescript (or modern JavaScript)
  • CDK and AWS Development tools including Cloud Formation
  • SQL
  • RDS and PostgreSQL
  • Monitoring solutions (e.g., CloudWatch, Grafana, Kibana)
Significant and demonstrable experience in the following areas:
  • Making excellent quality software with other people.
  • Working with business stakeholders, to understand the context and to focus on
  • delivering value.
  • Design and implementation of solutions using a service-based and serverless
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Experience working in the Agile delivery models - such as Scrum and/or Kanban
  • Cloud database monitoring, telemetry, intelligence tools and processes
  • Defining infrastructure-as-code
  • Testing of disaster recovery procedures
  • Data replication and high-availability technology
