Outdoor Teaching Assistant

Salary: 13.68 - 16.12 per hour (Depending on Experience)

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Outdoor Teaching Assistant to join schools in Poole, where you will play a vital role in encouraging children to connect with nature while developing key academic and personal skills. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in practical, outdoor learning settings and enjoys helping young learners grow in confidence.
The Role:
As an Outdoor Teaching Assistant, you will support students in both group and one-to-one sessions, contributing to their educational and social development through outdoor learning activities. You will work alongside teachers to deliver engaging lessons in open spaces, ensuring that children benefit from the fresh air and hands-on experiences. Ideally, you will hold a valid driving licence and be willing to drive, as part of the role may involve supporting learning across different school sites or outdoor venues.
The School:
The school is an education setting based for 16 - 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.
Outdoor Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

• Supporting students in outdoor classroom environments to enhance their learning.
• Assisting teachers in delivering creative and practical outdoor lessons.
• Encouraging students to engage in activities that promote teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving.
• Helping pupils develop both academically and socially in a natural setting.
• Providing one-to-one and small group support where required.

Requirements for an Outdoor Teaching Assistant:

• Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting is desirable.
• CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare/Teaching Assistance, or equivalent qualifications.
• A valid driving licence and willingness to drive are essential for this role.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to adapt to a variety of outdoor learning environments and inspire children through active learning.
