The role and Responsibilities
The main role and responsibilities will include (although, this is not an exhaustive list):-
Running a caseload of clinical negligence claims;
Assisting solicitors and partners;
Working to a chargeable hours target;
Undertaking investigations, analysing evidence and preparing legal advice to clients;
Drafting general correspondence and legal documents;
Liaising with clients and third parties, including claimants and their representatives, Counsel and the Court;
Undertaking legal research and quantifying damages;
Liaising with witnesses and drafting witness statements;
Instructing independent medical experts and Counsel;
Attending conferences, hearings and dispute resolution meetings, such as mediations.
Supervision, support and relevant training will be provided although the successful applicant will also be encouraged, where appropriate, to use their own initiative.
Skills and Experience
Candidates should have:
At least a 2:1 undergraduate degree;
Ideally an LPC or BVC qualification (LPC would be preferred but is not essential)
A passion to work with our clients
Strong IT skills;
Ability to adhere to and manage deadlines;
Good written skills;
Good administration skills; and
Good communication skills.
Candidates will also be expected to demonstrate at interview that they:
Understand the role applied for and the work undertaken in the team applied for and the division as a whole;
Are well organised and have a positive, can do attitude;
Have good attention to detail;
Are able to work well under pressure in a fast pace environment and be able to respond to the need of our clients;
Are proactive and able to work independently as well as part of a team; and
Are self-motivated.
Candidates should be aware:
