Criminal Law Paralegal

Location: Derby

Job Type: Full-time | Temp to Perm (6-month contract)

Salary: Dependent on experience and qualifications

A reputable and long-established law firm in Derby is seeking a Criminal Law Paralegal to join its criminal defence team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual looking to build a career in criminal law.

Responsibilities:

Assisting with a varied caseload of criminal defence matters Working with both publicly and privately funded clients Drafting legal correspondence to clients and third parties Inputting and maintaining data on a specialist case management system Applying for Legal Aid on behalf of new clients Preparing court files for advocates Meeting clients in person and handling telephone enquiries Providing general support to solicitors and fee earners
Practice Areas Include:

Magistrates Court Preparation Crown Court Preparation Police station advice Motoring offences General criminal matters
Requirements:

LLB completed (essential) LPC or SQE (essential) Previous experience within a Legal Aid firm (preferred) Strong organisational skills and attention to detail Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) Ability to use initiative and work as part of a team
Additional Information:

Police Station Accreditation offered upon successful completion of probation Full UK driving licence required Ability to travel and work unsociable hours once accredited Excellent long-term career progression opportunities
