Job Description

Role Purpose



To provide high-quality legal and administrative support to the Clinical Negligence team, handling a caseload of pre-litigated files under supervision and assisting fee-earners with the effective progression of complex and litigated claims.

The role supports the firm in delivering excellent client care, maintaining compliance, and achieving performance targets.

Key Responsibilities



Casework & Legal Support



Conduct initial client interviews, take instructions, and prepare detailed statements. Assist with new enquiries and issue client care packs Obtain, review, and paginate medical records and other evidence. Instruct and liaise with medical experts, counsel, and external agencies. Draft correspondence, witness statements, chronologies and factual summaries. Chasing documentation where applicable Assist fee-earners with drafting pleadings, schedules of loss, and instructions to counsel. Undertake legal and medical research, and analyse facts from clients and medical records to help contribute to case strategy discussions. Ensure accurate time recording and adherence to departmental KPIs. Assist team with pre and post issue tasks as directed eg drafting list of documents, drafting claim form, drafting witness summons Complying with court deadlines Liaising with costs draftsman with regards to costs

Client Care



Act as a first point of contact for clients, providing updates and managing expectations with empathy and professionalism. Maintain high standards of communication and build positive relationships with clients, experts, and other stakeholders.

Compliance & File Management



Ensure all files are maintained in accordance with company and SRA requirements. Adhere to internal policies, including GDPR, confidentiality, and financial management procedures. Assist in preparing files for billing, closure, and audit.

Team Support & Development



Support senior fee-earners with complex or high-value matters as required. Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and supervision reviews. Contribute to knowledge sharing, precedent development, and service improvements.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications



Essential



Experience working within clinical negligence, personal injury, or another litigation field. Strong understanding of the pre-action protocol for clinical negligence claims. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail. Good organisational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines. Proficient in using case management systems and Microsoft Office applications. Demonstrated commitment to client care and professional ethics.

Desirable



Law degree, GDL, or equivalent legal qualification. Experience drafting key documents such as letters of claim, witness statements, and chronologies. Experience supporting litigated clinical negligence claims.
