Client R is a young woman with an acquired brain injury. R has also suffered from an eating disorder. We are looking for someone to support for a minimum of 8 hours per week to a maximum of 15 hours. These hours will primarily be on a Monday and Wednesday but some degree of flexibility needed depending on availability and client need, she may occasionally want to go to a gig or a weekend or evening activity.
Primarily the role will be to support with activities and admin. Currently R enjoys physical activities so the rehab assistant will need to be able to assist/accompany with activities like indoor rock climbing. R also need assistance to access therapy, OT and physio and attend appointments. There is a need for support with admin, sorting emails, arranging appointments, planning etc.
R has input from a brain injury case manager, neuro OT, specialist physio and neuropsychologist who will provide ongoing supervision and support to the rehab assistant along with ourselves, a specialist care provider.
We would prefer someone with experience of brain injury, must have good life skills and organisational skills with an empathetic approach to support work. We require someone with excellent communication and motivational skills whilst remaining sensitive to the clients needs. Engagement is an issue with R so a positive, firm approach is needed. Whilst R presents no physical risk her behaviour can be challenging and good problem solving skills are needed.
This is an excellent opportunity to work closely alongside brain injury professionals for someone looking for part time work or as a second employment. This position would also be ideal for a psychology or nursing student.
You must be a car owner/driver as R may need taking to appointments/activities.
You will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS, provide checkable references and proof of eligibility to work in the UK. Please let us know if you hold a portable DBS.
