The Role
We are seeking a skilled and reliable
Handyperson
to join our team and help maintain our modern facility to the highest standards. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety in their work and takes pride in creating and maintaining a safe, functional environment for young people.
As our Handyperson, you'll be responsible for routine maintenance, problem-solving, and ensuring our building remains in excellent condition. You'll work independently while being part of a supportive team committed to our charitable mission.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance and repairs across all areas of the building
Conduct basic electrical work, including lighting repairs and safety checks
Handle plumbing maintenance, including taps, toilets, and drainage issues
Undertake carpentry work, including repairs to doors, windows, and fixtures
Troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day maintenance issues as they arise
Maintain all equipment and systems in good working order
Ensure all work areas are safe and hazard-free for young people and staff
Liaise with external contractors when specialist work is required
Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and report any concerns to management
Support the setup and breakdown of events and activities as needed
Essential Requirements
Multi-skilled tradesperson
with experience in maintenance and repair work
Electrical skills
- basic electrical work and safety knowledge
Plumbing experience
- routine plumbing repairs and maintenance
Carpentry skills
- repairs, installations, and general woodwork
Proven experience in general building maintenance (minimum 2 years)
Ability to work independently and use initiative
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication skills
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one)
Full UK work authorisation
Desirable Qualifications
Relevant trade qualifications or certifications
Experience working in educational or community settings
First Aid qualification
Understanding of health and safety regulations
Experience with modern building systems
