Loddon School is more than a residential school; it is a home. It is home for children aged 8-19 with profound autism, who are non-verbal and have severe learning difficulties, resulting in highly challenging behaviours.

We are currently looking to recruit a Part time Health and Safety Officer working 3 days per week, who is enthusiastic, energetic, resilient and proactive. They must be able to work closely with other people in a variety of roles and should be able to demonstrate problem solving skills and ability to react quickly and effectively often in a challenging and difficult situation.

What the role will entail



Develop and manage the annual Fire, Health & Safety programme and budget in collaboration with the Director of Finance. Conduct and record weekly/monthly site safety checks, ensuring follow-up actions are taken. Maintain compliance using Worknest Health & Safety guidance and best practices. Support project development and costing within the scope of the role. Manage supplier relationships and ensure due diligence in contracts and services. Co-lead site safety, maintenance, and security with the Site Manager. Oversee risk assessments, safe working systems, and PPE provision/training. Act as the nominated Health & Safety Officer, ensuring policy compliance and staff induction. Investigate and report incidents, maintain training records, and manage RIDDOR reporting. Ensure safety during high-risk school events and respond to H&S concerns. Oversee vehicle safety, servicing, documentation, and driver compliance. Manage fire safety inspections, drills, equipment checks, and staff training. Ensure electrical and gas appliances are regularly serviced and certified. Conduct water safety checks, including legionella monitoring and temperature regulation. Liaise with stakeholders, Trustees, and external inspectors, providing reports and updates

What is essential for the role



We are seeking an individual who is highly organised, methodical, and detail-oriented, with strong project planning skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks to tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a positive outlook, respected by others and able to build strong working relationships across a variety of roles. Competence in Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn new systems is essential, along with energy, enthusiasm and resilience. A good level of business acumen, creativity in developing initiatives, and physical capability to carry out all duties are also key to success in this role.

We are looking for someone who has a HNC (Higher National Certificate) or HND (Higher National Diploma) in a relevant field, this is essential to this role, as it demonstrates a solid foundation of technical knowledge and practical experience. A Health & Safety qualification is desirable and a willingness to pursue further Health and Safety training. Experience working within a school, care, or charity environment is advantageous, particularly with children who have Special Educational Needs (SEN). The role demands a high level of physical fitness, mobility, and stamina to carry out day-to-day tasks across a large school site, including assisting with transport and site maintenance. The candidate must show a clear willingness to complete any further training or qualifications needed, particularly in Health & Safety protocols.

Due to the school's location, access to personal transport is highly advantageous. Reliability, a proactive attitude, and the ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic environment are key traits required to excel in this role.

Hours of work



This is a part time position, with the working hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm, 3 days a week (total of 22.5 hours a week). There is a degree of flexibility when discussing working days.

Salary



Pro-rated Salary: 20,077 - 24,324, this is dependent on qualifications and experience.
