Job Description

The Youth Education Service (TYES) is delighted to be partnering with an Alternative Provision in Wavertree to recruit a dedicated Pastoral Support Assistant. This school offers a 12-week short-stay programme for pupils who require additional support, and is seeking compassionate, motivated individuals who are committed to improving the educational, social, and emotional outcomes of young people.

Located close to Liverpool City Centre with excellent travel links, the academy has an impressive range of specialist facilities, including a science lab, IT suite, gymnasium, Food Technology and Art & Design rooms, family dining area, and dedicated therapy spaces--all designed to enrich every pupil's experience.

Start Date: January 2026 / March 2026



Hours: 08:30 - 15:30



Pay95 - 110 per day

Your Role as a Pastoral Support Assistant



As a key member of the school's pastoral team, you will:

Support pupils' wellbeing, behaviour, and engagement across the school day Work alongside teaching staff to promote independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion Provide 1:1 or small-group support to help pupils access learning and develop positive relationships Help create a safe, nurturing environment where all young people feel valued and understood Encourage pupils to develop emotional regulation, resilience, and confidence Contribute to safeguarding, behaviour management, and intervention strategies

What We're Looking For



You must have:

GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths, or willingness to obtain Experience in a coaching, pastoral, or educational setting Experience supporting children or young people with varying needs Strong literacy, numeracy, and organisational skills The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils and staff Awareness of pupils' pastoral needs and how to adapt support appropriately Excellent communication and active listening skills A calm, patient approach--especially in challenging situations Knowledge of safeguarding guidance and child protection responsibilities
