McDougall Johnstone are a Glasgow and Lanarkshire based Advisory and Accounting firm who believe that their role is to provide advisory services to assist their growing client base whilst ensuring their accounting taxation and accounting needs are met. Our offices are located in the heart of Glasgow and Airdrie with all the transport links and city facilities on their doorstep. They are looking for a Payroll/Administrator to join their team.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare, process, and submit client payrolls accurately and on time (weekly, fortnightly, and/or monthly).

Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with HMRC and pension auto-enrolment requirements.

Manage Real Time Information (RTI) submissions and ensure accuracy in PAYE, NIC, and statutory payments.

Set up and administer workplace pension schemes (NEST, The People's Pension, Smart Pension, etc.) as required.

Process pension contributions, opt-ins, opt-outs, and re-enrolments in line with legal requirements.

Liaise with clients to collect and verify employee details, pay changes, and timesheets.

Prepare and issue payslips, P45s, P60s, and other payroll documentation.

Support with year-end processes and payroll reporting.

Stay up to date with changes to payroll and pension legislation and HMRC guidance.

Essential Skills & Experience:

Proven experience processing payroll within the UK (preferably for multiple clients or within an accountancy practice).

Solid understanding of PAYE, statutory payments, pensions, and HMRC reporting.

Experience using Sage 50 Payroll (essential).

Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Comfortable working independently and managing deadlines.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.

Desirable (Not Essential):

Previous experience within an accountancy firm or payroll bureau.

Familiarity with Scottish tax codes and devolved payroll rules.

Experience supporting clients with CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) payroll.

Hours & Flexibility:

Flexible working hours to suit your schedule (approx. 15-30 hours per week -- to be agreed). First month office-based in Glasgow for training and onboarding. Fully remote/home-based role thereafter if preferred.
