: Payroll Administrator
Role Purpose
The Payroll Administrator is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations, employment law, and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Process weekly and/or monthly payroll accurately and on time
Calculate wages, overtime, holiday pay, SSP, SMP, and other statutory payments
Manage starters, leavers, and changes to employee records
Ensure correct tax codes, NI contributions, and pension deductions
Submit RTI reports to HMRC
Administer workplace pension contributions and liaise with pension providers
Handle payroll queries from employees professionally and confidentially
Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation
Support year-end payroll processes including P60s and P11Ds
Work closely with management and finance to ensure payroll accuracy
Ensure GDPR compliance and confidentiality at all times
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience in a payroll administration role
Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Strong organisational and time-management skills
Ability to handle confidential information responsibly
Confident using payroll software and Microsoft Excel
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable (but not essential)
Experience processing payroll for hourly-paid staff
Knowledge of auto-enrolment pensions
Experience in a multi-site or high-volume payroll environment
Payroll qualification (CIPP or similar)
