Oxfordshire is a large county with 12 towns and a major city centre, also with significant rural areas, necessitating the post holder to be an essential car user with their own transport.
Migrant families arrive in Oxfordshire to resettle, be homed temporarily or to await asylum decisions. They are situated throughout the county, and in dedicated areas such as at Ministry of Defence housing and in contingency hotels and dispersal accommodation.
We are looking to recruit an EAL Advisor who will support schools with their English as an Additional Language strand for newly arrived migrant children. Part of the role will require a small amount of ESOL tutoring around the county to assess need and contribute to the team's development and direction.
About the Role
The Migrant Education, Employment & Adult Skills team is forward thinking, vibrant and growing within the Children, Education and Families directorate and the Migration Partnership. We focus our support on migrant families who have arrived in Oxfordshire to resettle, be homed temporarily or, to await asylum decisions.
The role will offer support to schools regarding EAL provision as it expands to meet demand of newly arriving migrant children as well as contributing to the strategic direction of ESOL provision in Oxfordshire.
You will work closely with staff from all Oxfordshire councils, colleges and private providers.
It is envisaged that the division of duties between the two foci may vary from time to time throughout the academic year. Key requirements of this job are flexibility, time management and the ability to set and work to priorities.
About you
You will have experience tutoring young people and adults with ESOL, EFL and EAL and have a professional teaching qualifications (for e.g. CELTA, TEFL, TESOL).
You will have a clean driving licence, access to a vehicle and insurance for business use.
You will have a sound knowledge of the English education system and have experience working in schools.
