We're looking for a Permit & Compliance Manager to join Essex Highways, acting as Deputy to the Streetworks Manager/Business Unit Leader. As part of the Service Leadership Team, you'll lead key functions to deliver high-quality, customer-focused services.


You'll bring strong technical knowledge to manage complex projects, mentor staff, and support strategic priorities. The role includes developing business plans, overseeing programme delivery, and ensuring performance against key internal and external targets. Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential.


The Role




Act as a key member of the leadership team, deputising for the Streetworks Manager and leading key areas of Essex Highways and innovation initiatives.


Provide strong leadership to motivate staff, set clear direction, and drive high performance through regular monitoring and development.


Align team objectives with the wider goals of Essex Highways and the County Council, ensuring staff understand their contribution to overall priorities.


Develop and implement policies, plans, and procedures that support economic growth and community outcomes.


Manage the delivery of work programmes, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to a high standard of quality and efficiency.


About You




Degree level or equivalent high-level qualification in related subject or proven experience. (Essential) Extensive knowledge and experience of managing highway services including statutory processes involved with these activities Evidence of continuous professional development Post graduate qualification in related subject or management or equivalent professional experience is desired Membership of professional institution is desired
