Job Description

Perthyn supports the aims of the Welsh Language communities housing plan and Cymraeg 2050. Providing early-stage support to our Welsh language communities in the North and West Wales who are impacted by a high density of second homes. Perthyn works with communities who are interested in developing social enterprise, co-operative and Community Led Housing ideas. The Perthyn Small Grant Scheme provides funding to set-up or support co-operatives, social enterprises and community-led housing projects.

About the role:

The Perthyn Co-ordinator's principal purpose is to bring communities together to act on issues including, declining numbers of Welsh speakers, lack of community amenities, and a shortage of good quality affordable homes in communities. The Co-ordinator will develop a pipeline of community groups who are engaged and passionate and want to take action to address the key issues. This will be achieved by reaching out, listening and connecting people in communities, running and attending events to promote social enterprises, co-operatives and community-led housing, direct liaison with interested community groups, organisations and stakeholders, facilitating groups to come together to take action, and supporting a range of marketing activities aimed at community groups and anchor organisations.

Location

: Home based in Gwynedd, Conwy or Anglesey with some travel across the three counties, and occasionally beyond.

Responsibilities



1. To engage communities and stakeholders across Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey (where there is a high density of second homes) in conversations about social enterprise, co-operatives and community-led housing

2. To promote and raise awareness of social enterprise, co-operatives and community-led housing to community groups, and community organisations via a range of methods, such as presentations (both in-person and online); attendance at community events; use of social media; identifying opportunities to get our message out via traditional media.

3. To proactively organise and attend meetings, workshops, networks and events to support the development of a pipeline of motivated Welsh speaking community groups.

4. To take enquiries from community groups, or individuals, and assist them either directly or by making referrals, where appropriate, to the to the Programme Manager, or Cwmpas colleagues.

5. To support individuals, who are interested in developing social enterprises, co-operatives or community-led housing, and to connect them with like-minded individuals with whom to form community groups.

6. To design and develop a range of marketing and publicity materials, including promotional leaflets, presentations, case studies, campaigns, event marketing etc.

7. Organise visits where required for community groups and stakeholders to local community enterprises and housing projects.

8. To liaise and co-operate with internal colleagues, referring clients for further support from appropriate internal stakeholders.

9. To liaise and co-operate with external partner agencies, to the furtherance of the programme's purpose.

10. To update the organisation's Customer Relationship Management system, so that the whole team can draw down information on client interactions and progress.

11. To support the Programme Manager in remaining aware of and responding to changes in the external environment affecting our clients.

Qualifications



You will have a good standard of general education

Knowledge / Experience



You will have demonstrable experience of engaging and working directly with individuals and community groups to take action on issues that matter to them. You will have experience of effectively presenting information directly to audiences with varying levels of pre-existing knowledge. You will be able to show understanding of the issues faced by Welsh language communities who have a high density of second homes. You will have experience of using a range of communications tools (such as social media, traditional media, film, etc.) to successfully promote a message. You will have demonstrable experience of local community organising. You will be able to show knowledge of co-operative principles. You will have demonstrable experience of working in a community-facing role. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of how to collect and present data which show progress toward your objectives. You will have demonstrable experience of working in a co-operative, supportive environment, where you and your team-mates have helped one another to achieve shared outcomes.

Skills



The ability to communicate fluently in Welsh

is essential for this role.

You will have developed communication skills; you will listen and show genuine interest and connection, be able to develop trust and relationships with community groups and motivate them to take action. The process of establishing social enterprises, co-operatives and CLH can be demanding; you will be able to positively communicate effectively in a variety of contexts and situations and you will need to be able to demonstrate that you have the skills to effectively present information to groups but also to motivate them to take the next step and embark upon the process. You will have developed skills in public speaking: the role requires presenting to a range of stakeholders with a variety of levels of understanding of community enterprise/housing, so it is important to be able to effectively modulate your delivery to suit the group.

Salary: 32,276 per annum (19,366 pro-rata)
