Planning Systems & Training Manager

Job Description

The CrossCountry timetable is at the core of the offer we make to our customers and is hugely important to our business. In this role you will play an integral part of our Train Planning team, which produces the timetable.


Reporting to the Senior Timetable Delivery Manager you will be responsible for:

Management of Train Planners competencies and training Management of Train Planning systems including an upcoming project to replace our key planning software Delivery of LTP & STP traincrew diagrams

In this role you will:

Act as the main training resource for new starters in the Train Planning team Prepare and update training and process documentation for the train planning team Maintain a good standard of knowledge of all train planning processes and activities As required, upskill and assist with professional development of members of the Planning team Maintain high standards of work across the team and provide one to one training to address any deficiencies Be an expert on Planning systems, including integration with downstream and upstream systems within the business Be the main contact point for existing software providers, Representing the Planning team at monthly Service Review Meetings Manage ongoing workstreams around new Planning software. Produce and deliver training sessions on new software that is introduced Liaise with the project management team and act as the SME for the upcoming Train Planning system replacement project Deliver sessions about Train planning to internal and external stakeholders Assist the LTP and STP traincrew diagramming process, ensuring all activities are completed on time and handed over to downstream processes Liaise with internal and external stakeholders Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing improvements to planning processes and systems Deputise for the Senior Timetable Delivery Manager as required
To be successful in this role you must clearly demonstrate on your application the following skills and experience:

Current Train Planning experience Educated to degree level (or equivalent) Experience line managing a team in the rail industry Experience of Train Planning systems including Voyager Plan Experience of managing training within a Train Planning setting Experience of Train planning activities in particular Train Crew Diagramming Experience maintaining excellent attention to detail, working in an analytical way using evidence and data and meeting deadlines Excellent IT skills and an ability to learn how to use new systems A drive to improve processes to implement faster, smarter and more accurate ways of working

More importantly you must be able to bring in new ideas, willing to question the 'norm' and implement improvements so we effectively respond to our customer needs.
