SASCS is a charitable, not for profit organisation, which provides out of school care to children and their families, based in Sciennes Primary School.

We are looking to employ energetic, enthusiastic and fun individuals as Playworkers to join our busy team and support our thriving after school / breakfast club service.



Summary of Main Responsibilities of a Playworker:

Working as part of our established team to provide childcare for up to 85 children each day. Strong team working skills are essential, as well as a willingness to take on a variety of roles including preparation of healthy snacks/breakfasts, set up and tidy up of the playroom, as well as supervision of children's play. Supervision of children during play and delivery of activities, including art and crafts, science, baking, outdoor games, sports - Activities can be based on your interests and skills, we are always open to new ideas! Assisting in the planning, preparation and delivery of quality play experiences within a safe and caring environment Striving hard to offer an excellent service to the children in our care. This involves regular participation in team briefing and evaluation sessions and having a genuine interest in being part of a high-quality childcare environment.
Requirements:

It is desirable that you have some experience in working with groups of children, this could be in a voluntary or paid role, however this is not essential The successful candidate must have enthusiasm for working with children and a willingness to learn on the job All childcare staff in Scotland must be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council within 3 months of starting in their position and then need to complete on the job training each year in order to fulfil their registration requirements. We offer access to an online training hub to support staff with completing required training, and supplement this with whole staff in-house training sessions.
Additional Information:

Our out of school service operates the following hours and successful candidates must be available to work regular shifts throughout school term time, a minimum of 8 hours each week.

Monday - 1.30 - 6.00pm

Tuesday - 2.30 - 6.00pm

Wednesday - 1.30 - 6.00pm

Thursday - 2.30 - 6.00pm

Friday - 10.30am -6.00pm

We also operate a breakfast club service from 7.30am to 9.00am each morning, Monday to Friday

SASCS after school and breakfast club service operates throughout all City of Edinburgh Council school term dates and successful candidates must be available to work during all of term time. Term Dates for the 2025 - 2026 school year can be accessed on the City of Edinburgh Council Website by searching for 'School Term Dates'.

All play workers receive their annual leave entitlement during periods the service is closed at Christmas and New Year and the last two weeks of the summer holidays each year (the beginning of August). Term time leave is generally not authorised, unless in very exceptional circumstances.

Hours of work may be available during school holiday periods, these hours are optional and at the discretion of SASCS Management Team and as necessitated by the needs of the scheme. The normal working hours during these periods are 8.30 to 5.30pm Monday to Friday with a 30-minute unpaid break each day.

Interviews will take place on Monday 18th August 2025 and successful candidates will be asked to attend an induction session to complete all required paperwork and employment checks on Tuesday 19th August 2025.

Candidates will start in their position as soon as we receive two successful references and a Protection of Vulnerable Groups check. We are aiming for new staff to be in position at the beginning of September.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: 12.50 per hour
