PMLD Teaching Assistant

Support, Educate, Nurture

Sense Education are passionate about helping young people and improving the learning journey for pupils with SEND. We are looking for a dedicated PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a specialist unit supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties.

The Role

You will support the class teacher in delivering a sensory-based curriculum tailored to each pupil's needs. Class sizes are small, usually 5-7 pupils, with a strong team of TAs and access to external professionals. Your role may involve:

Creating a safe, calm, and nurturing classroom environment Supporting learning journals and personalised targets Assisting in sessions such as physiotherapy, swimming, and sensory play Using Makaton, visual aids, or other communication strategies Helping with snack and lunchtime routines, which may include specialist feeding Providing personal care and supporting with hoisting when required

The Ideal Person

Experience (paid or personal) supporting children or adults with PMLD Kind, caring, and patient with a reliable and adaptable approach A qualification in care, childcare, or a relevant degree is desirable

Hours

8.30am-3.30pm, full-time with immediate start. Part-time applicants will also be considered.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. we undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
