Compliance and Practice Manager
with a strong background in legal practice management to lead on regulatory compliance, risk management, and operational support.
Role Overview
As the Compliance and Practice Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that the firm operates in full compliance with all applicable regulations, particularly those set out by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), GDPR, and other governing bodies. You will also play a key role in managing day-to-day practice operations, supporting legal teams, and implementing policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance and Risk Management
Ensure ongoing compliance with SRA Standards and Regulations (including AML, COLP/COFA responsibilities).
Monitor regulatory updates and implement necessary changes to firm policies and procedures.
Conduct regular internal audits and risk assessments.
Maintain and update the firm's risk register and compliance records.
Liaise with external regulators, insurers, and auditors where necessary.
Practice Management
Oversee daily operational functions of the firm including staffing, resourcing, and workflow.
Support onboarding and induction processes for new joiners, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Review and improve office procedures to support efficiency, client care, and case management.
Support partners in developing business continuity and contingency plans.
Data Protection and Information Security
Ensure GDPR compliance and maintain the Data Protection Policy.
Manage any data breaches in line with ICO reporting requirements.
Promote information security awareness across the firm.
Training and Development
Organise compliance and legal training sessions for staff.
Maintain records of mandatory training and certification.
Assist in annual policy reviews and updates to the staff handbook.
Key Requirements
Prior experience working in a
law firm
in a compliance, risk, or practice management capacity (essential).
Strong working knowledge of
SRA regulations
,
GDPR
, and
anti-money laundering
procedures.
Familiarity with legal case management systems and HR policies.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
Desirable
Experience working with Lexcel or other accreditation standards.
