Job Description

Provide leadership and management skills to enable the practice to meet its agreed aims and objectives within a profitable, efficient, safe and effective working environment.o Keep abreast of current affairs and identify potential threats and opportunities o Contribute to practice strategy; formulate objectives and research and develop ideas for future practice development o Monitor and evaluate performance of the practice team against objectives; identify and manage change o Develop and maintain effective communication both within the practice and with relevant outside agencies o Retain responsibility for all areas of workload, regardless of delegation of tasks o Be responsible for the managerial lead for QP/Cluster performance o Manage the administrative staff and non-clinical management of nursing staff providing a general personnel management service o Ensure that all staff are legally and gainfully employed. Monitor skill-mix and deployment of staff o Manage staffing levels within target budgets o Evaluate, organize and oversee staff induction and training and ensure that all staff are adequately trained to fulfil their role o Develop and implement effective staff appraisal and monitoring systems o Support and mentor staff, both as individuals and as team members o Implement effective systems for the resolution of disputes and grievances o Keep abreast of changes in employment legislation o Maintain up-to-date HR documentation (including job descriptions, employment contracts, PIN numbers, insurance details, employment policies) o Convene meetings, prepare agendas and ensure distribution of minutes as necessary o Ensure all rotas are accurate and complied with and that locums have correct documentation to undertake their role o Ensure that Practice premises are properly maintained and cleaned and that adequate fire prevention and security systems are in place including regular training and drills o Manage the procurement of practice equipment, supplies and services within target budgets o Review Health & Safety policies and procedures and keep abreast of current legislationo Ensure service development and delivery is in accordance with local and national guidelines o Ensure that the practice complies with NHS contractual obligations in relation to patient care o Oversee and/or develop repeat prescribing systems o Oversee and manage an effective appointments system o Oversee and organise surgery timetables, duty rotas and holiday cover o Routinely monitor and assess practice performance against patient access and demand management targets o Develop and implement an effective complaints management system o Evaluate and plan practice IT implementation and modernisation o Keep abreast of the latest development in primary care IT including initiatives and disease coding, and regularly update the practice operational team o Motivate, support and monitor staff in the use of IT; organise, oversee and evaluate IT training o Set targets and monitoring standards for data entry and data collection o Ensure that the practice has effective IT data security
