We are seeking an experienced and proactive Practice Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our accountancy practice. This pivotal role ensures the smooth running of the firm, efficient workflows, regulatory compliance, and exceptional client service.
The ideal candidate must be qualified and will also bring strong audit experience, preferably already hold Responsible Individual (RI) status or demonstrate a clear ambition and capability to work towards becoming an RI.
You will work closely with the partners to support strategic planning, financial performance, and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Practice Management
Oversee daily operations to maintain efficient and effective workflows.
Support partners with strategic planning, financial targets, and growth initiatives.
Monitor WIP, billing cycles, debtors, and key financial KPIs.
Ensure compliance with GDPR, AML regulations, and professional standards.
Liaise with external suppliers, insurers, and software providers.
Maintain and enhance operational policies and procedures.
Client Relationship Management
Manage client onboarding, including new client setup and welcome processes.
Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships.
Handle client queries and ensure timely, professional responses.
Liaise with clients and HMRC on all relevant matters.
Conduct client tax review meetings.
Identify opportunities for value-added services and referrals.
Accounts, Tax & Audit Duties
Prepare and submit VAT returns (or manage team doing this).
Prepare year-end accounts and corporate tax returns (or manage team doing this).
Prepare self-assessment tax returns (or manage team doing this).
Complete accounts preparation, finalisation, and management accounts.
Manage team delivering payroll and CIS administration.
Review client contracts and identify non-profitable or unsuitable engagements.
Ensure compliance with current tax legislation and money laundering regulations.
Support and oversee audit assignments, ensuring high-quality delivery and compliance with auditing standards.
Act as RI where applicable or work towards achieving RI status with partner support.
Business Development & Support
Assist partners in driving growth, profitability, and operational efficiency.
Support marketing activities, client communications, and networking initiatives.
Identify workflow efficiencies and implement continuous improvement.
Undertake any other ad-hoc duties as required by management.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
Minimum 10 years' experience working in practice
Highly organised, detail-oriented, and proactive.
Experienced in practice management within an accountancy environment.
Confident in managing staff, clients, and operational processes.
Qualified with either ACCA or ICAEW
Technically strong in accounting, tax, compliance, and audit.
Preferably an RI or motivated to become one with the appropriate experience and training.
Skilled in communication, problem-solving, and relationship building.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
